Third Lobby is a band out of Chattanooga, TN that I have had the pleasure of discovering this week. How I lived this long without ever hearing of them, especially since I even went to college with one of the members, I don’t know.
Lying somewhere between folk, bluegrass, and pop, Third Lobby is a sweetly melodic The Beatles-meets-Nickel Creek-type band. Their EP, Subtlety, features five tracks, from fun to gorgeous. You can stream Subtlety for free on their website.
Third Lobby is comprised of Matt Brown on lead vocals and guitar, Elise Ziegenbein on violin, J Tingle on mandolin and vocals, Steph Heaney on percussion, Ben Hubbard on piano and accordion, David Henry on bass and trumpet, and Ellie Henry on vocals.
Featured is the video for “I Am a Stone”, one of their more fun tracks. This is one of the cutest videos I’ve seen in a long time, and really well-made for an unsigned band. “Janitors” and “Sun Dog” are probably my two favorite tracks, if a bit evocative of Sgt. Pepper & Co.
Third Lobby have a lot of promise, and I can’t wait to see what’s going to be in store for these guys! Third Lobby will be opening up for Warren Hood at Chattanooga’s free Nightfall concert this Friday, August 27, at 7:00 pm at Miller Plaza.
